Roasting Approach

I am using an Aillio Bullet R1 that can handle up to 1 kg of coffee, though I stick to smaller batches around 500 - 800 grams, to not overcrowd the roaster. My desired roasting approach is the idea that the beans have their "best potential" and my job is to find it and show it. Easier said than done lol.

My biggest challenge is that I am super low volume so finding that perfect roast for the bean is going to be difficult in the short to medium term. Secondly, the bullet is a drum roaster. With a drum roaster, beans receive a ton of energy when they're touching the hot drum, which means not every part of the bean gets heated evenly when compared to convection roasters. The more even the heat application, the easier it is to predict and track how a particular bean roasts.

The dream is to upgrade to convection style roasting equipment like a Loring or Stronghold, which would allow me to use hot air to roast the beanie-weenie. This means every single bean would get the an even amount of heat, resulting in a more consistent and ideally, flavorful cup of coffee. So if I win the lottery, you know what I'll be doing.
